We provide the following senior social and independence support programs:

Seniors Programs

(Summer Canada Jobs Program and New Horizons for Seniors)
This project is funded in part by Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program

Seniors Social and Independence Support programs are designed to reduce isolation and provide seniors with opportunities for socialization and recreation, enhancing well being and reducing health risks. Mutually supportive relationships between seniors and other community members are nurtured and enhanced.

Drop In Scrabble: Every Tuesday September through May seniors get together at 12:30pm to play scrabble and spend some social time out. The program reduces isolation and provides mental stimulation

Seniors Hot Lunch: The Semiahmoo Peninsula has a large seniors population, many of them with mobility problems or health issues. Through lack of income, lack of transportation or diminished mental capacity, many do not eat properly. We address these issues by providing a nutritious meal each Wednesday September through May with transportation if needed, and allowing plenty of time for socialization. Lunch is followed by entertainment or speakers on topics of interest to seniors,  all provided by volunteers.  At least 7 volunteers assist every week with a variety of tasks, from food preparation to driving.

No Fuss Bus: Volunteer drivers, using the CBCS van, provide transportation every other Thursday morning from a subsidized housing complex to a shopping area where seniors can buy groceries, keep doctor or lab appointments, do their banking or other errands, and meet friends for a cup of coffee. All users are on restricted incomes and most have mobility challenges or some other form of disability.

Seniors Out-trips: Seniors are taken on a day trip to a variety of locations around the lower mainland. Volunteers assist with driving, guiding and trouble-shooting

Seniors Christmas Dinner: Each Christmas, seniors attend a festive Christmas dinner free of charge. Volunteers cook, serve, provide rides and bake traditional Christmas foods for the seniors to take home.  Local businesses donate food or gifts for the event. Volunteers also provide traditional entertainment.

Drop in Lounge: Volunteers run a drop in for coffee, snacks and conversation every Wednesday morning, 9:30-11am, September to May.
