Outdoor Leadership Program:
This 13-week program, offered January – April each year, provides students in grades 10 and 11 opportunities for mentoring, leadership, and learning skills and techniques for working with children in recreational programs. Youth learn more about themselves as both individuals and members of a group, as well as child development, program planning, group leadership and group dynamics. An outdoor component teaches canoeing, survival skills and nature activities and certification is available in food safe, first aid and canoeing. The youth are active volunteers in many programs and special events at the neighbourhood house and work directly with adults with disabilities, seniors, and children. Outdoor Leadership teens volunteer about 100 hours each year at a variety of events for children. Meaningful connections are made with the wider community and they are further prepared for employment and responsible participation in society. Many of the youth become employed by the neighbourhood house upon completion of this program.

Programs and events are offered on an ongoing basis providing youth with opportunities to develop their strengths, overcome their challenges and connect with their community.
